Read and Write

This is probably my least favorite thing to do. However, the benefits are endless. I recently started to read more books on life coaching and those good old self help books. I have to admit that I hate reading, although I am changing my language about that and really starting to embrace reading, at least 4-5 times a week. I have found it to be a great escape paired with long warm epsom salt baths. I figured, I may as well kill two birds with one stone and get it over with at once. And lets face it, this totally beats the worm hole of good old social media! I'm still trying to learn to write everyday. This was already said above and you can cross writing off your list if you are taking gratitude notes everyday! If you aren't, what are you waiting for? Not ready to talk about all the positivity that surrounds you? Write about something you want for yourself every evening you go to bed. Make it positive and as if you already have it. It's a much better way of getting settled down for bed and setting your brain up for night time success!


Three Simple Benefits of Reading and Journaling:

1. Journaling can reduce stress and Improve Immunity. Stress can damage your physical, mental and emotional health. Having too much unhealthy stress can lead to many health issues. Journaling and improving on your self exploration and idencinty can be a great tool to reduce your stress and provide you a way to manage stress in a good way. Some people pick up unhealthy habits as a coping skill. For me over eating was a way that I dealt with stress. Turning to journaling and reading self improvements books helped a lot! If you journal 15 to 20 minutes a day three to five times a week, you are sure to feel improvements overall! Sometimes using journaling to set your stressful experiences free can also be rewarding and help you manage them in a healthy way! If you are not stressed out, then your risk of becoming sick also decreases. There have been several studies that report a reduction in stress and increase in immunity health in those who journal.


2. If you are Journaling, then you are using your brain power more often. You are keeping it exercises and therefore you are keeping your memory sharp! When you read and journal you are expanding your comprehension and boosting your memory.


3. As you continue to build on your journaling experiences, you are starting to strengthen your emotional function. You are essentially adding another tool into the tool box and you are becoming more in tune with yourself. You will start to become for mindful, listening to your inner thoughts, needs and desires. I like to use this time to think about who I am and where I want to be in many different aspects of my life. I am scripting my desires. It has allowed me to be more structured and relate to others in a new way! I have grown so much through my experiences of journaling. I started reading books that will help me become more mindful and intentional as well. One book even had writing prompts within it!

When We write things down, it helps our brains work at full capacity! We are activating both parts of our brain! The imaginative right hemisphere plays the part in interpreting visual information and spatial processing. The logic-based left hemisphere and the frontal lobe is where we get our skills for reasoning, judgement, planning and problem solving. The parietal lobe is also important in writing because it interprets words and language. When we are writing something down with a pen and paper, we stimulate our brain and the information is brought to the forefront and triggers and triggers our brain to pay attention. SO SET YOUR GOALS TO PAPER! It will help you stay focused, helps align your intention with behavior, It holds you accountable and it's fun to cross things off that list when you hit the GOAL!

We already know that journaling has it's benefits. Gratitude journaling is a diarly of things in which we are grateful. The things that make us happy, unique, different and honored to be a part of or to have! They can be used to focus attention on the positive things in our lives. Gratitude, is simply the feeling of appreciation or thanks!


3. Write Down the Best Things That Happened to You Before You go to Bed

Try to think back on the day and talk about the highlights of what happened! This is a great time to acknowledge the awesome smile you got from your neighbor or the advice and loving hug you gave to a friend. Maybe it's about the beautiful weather and what you did in the sun all day! Take time to reflect on the happiness in the day!
